All Blue Bear Native American Style Flutes Are Naturally Earth-Toned
Honoring Tradition, Nature, and Sound
At Blue Bear Flutes, every Native American style flute we make is naturally tuned with respect for the Earth, our environment, and you—the player. We don’t follow artificial trends or gimmicks—we follow the birds, the breeze, and the resonance of real life. Just like no two cardinals sing the same song, every one of our handcrafted flutes has a unique voice.
From the morning calls of birds around our shop to the songs of foxes and coyotes under the moonlight, our flutes are a true reflection of the natural world’s harmony. That’s what we mean when we say they’re Earth-Toned—not forced into modern frequency standards like 432Hz or 440Hz, but instead allowed to breathe, sing, and flow.
The Truth About 432Hz and “Earth Frequencies”
In recent years, tuning musical instruments to 432Hz has become a trend, often marketed as “Earth Tone” or “healing frequency.” Some say it resonates with nature or is connected to the Schumann resonance of 7.83Hz. However, in reality, the math doesn’t add up. The 6th octave above 7.83Hz is actually closer to 422Hz, and tuning to 432Hz isn’t any more natural than any other modern pitch standard.
Ironically, if you were to play a flute tuned perfectly to 432Hz, it would only apply to one note—typically an A. Since most Native American flute scales don’t even include an A, and since tone is affected by breath, temperature, and style, a “true” 432Hz performance on a Native flute is extremely unlikely.
What Makes a Flute Truly Earth-Toned?
The original Native American flutes were not tuned to modern Western scales or specific frequencies. Their voice came from the spirit of the maker and the intent of the player—not a tuner or a scale. That’s why we proudly offer traditionally inspired, naturally tuned flutes rather than imposing an arbitrary modern frequency standard.
Your playing is already in harmony with Nature. Whether you’re just starting your flute journey or have years of experience, your expression matters more than your tuning fork.
Respect for All Flute Players
While we don’t support the commercial hype around 432Hz, we deeply respect those who find personal meaning in it. Our goal is to help people discover the joy of flute playing in its purest, most accessible form—through handcrafted, natural Native American style flutes that honor tradition without compromise.

In this video, I demonstrate playing an A note on the same Native American Flute in 440hz, 528hz and 432hz. It is possible because of the air pressure I use to play the note. In other words, the player can actually change the frequency of the flute by blowing harder or softer.
This video shows some of the concepts of 432hz and how they may have come about.
Finally, this amazing video gives you the insight from an actual Native American's point of view (that is - if a Native American is allowed to have an opinion about Native American Flutes?!). Caution: comical satire ahead!
