Getting Started With Your Flute

Welcome to your new Blue Bear Flute!

Whether this is your first Native American style flute or another addition to your collection, I’m glad to be part of your musical journey. You don’t need to read music to begin - just take your time, watch the video below, and enjoy discovering your flute’s voice.

Start with gentle, steady breath and relaxed hands. Try playing with the finger holes uncovered, then cover them one at a time, beginning with the hole closest to the mouthpiece. Use the soft pads of your fingers to cover each hole completely, keeping the previous holes covered as you work your way down.

A few clear, comfortable notes are a great beginning. There’s no need to rush into a song or get everything right at once. Explore the sounds, listen, and enjoy playing!
