These are the most Amazing Native American Drone Flutes that we have ever seen, made or had the opportunity to play! Today, these are becomming a wonderful addition to Native American Flute Players around the world! They have been created using an ages old system called the Circle of Fourths and the Circle of Fifths (and self-harmony). Our Olmec Drone is a small High D drone which plays the bottom 4 notes of the High D scale one one side and the top 3 high notes from the High D scale on the other. This "self-harmony" always sounds great! The Mayan Temple Drone has the main chamber playing the first 4 notes of the F# minor pentatonic scale, accompanied by its "perfect 4th" of B minor pentatonic. The Aztec Temple Drone is made similarly with E minor pentatonic and B minor pentatonic which are "perfect 5ths". What this means is that each of these flutes make a wonderful array of harmonies with themselves! The sound is similar to Gregorian Chant and just about any music of that time period, hence many people nickname these drones "Aztec, Mayan or Olmec Temple Flutes". They are all made of poplar, the 5th Drone is the larger of the three, the 4th Drone is the middle size and the Olmec (self harmonic) is the smallest and is also backpack ready! They are all stained with a natural dark "chocolate" color as in the single drone example (the multicolored image is an older example). There were a few historical examples of Native American Drone Flutes that have been discovered. The most well know were perhaps in the Calima Cultrure of Central America who made the 4 hole drones with 4 fingerings on each side! These are perhaps the easiest version most similar to those originals to play!
