Many players are enchanted by the bright tone and radiant color of our Old-Style African Yellowheart 5-Hole Native American style flute. Yellowheart, also called Pau Amarello, is prized for its brilliant golden hue and smooth, even grain. It produces a clear, singing voice with crisp articulation and lively projection — a cheerful, uplifting sound that stands out in any collection.
Like all of our Old-Style models, this flute features an open mouthpiece design — instead of a small blow hole, the mouth opening matches the flute’s interior diameter. This design, inspired by traditional rivercane flutes, lets you press your lips directly to the end and blow naturally, offering precise breath control and helping prevent the flute from “wetting out.”
Each flute includes our flat/standard block on top, and you can personalize it with a custom totem from our Totems page. Our 5-hole flutes play all the same notes as 6-hole flutes — learn more on our 6-Hole Flute page.
This model is offered in the key of high B (as demonstrated in the video) and can be tuned to 432 Hz or 528 Hz upon request instead of the standard 440 Hz. Just leave a note with your order.
Every flute is custom-made to order, hand-finished with our exclusive natural oil-and-wax blend that enhances Yellowheart’s brilliant color and preserves its vibrant tone without lacquer. For regular maintenance, use our Imitation Bear Fat or natural oils such as mineral or olive oil.
You’ll also receive unlimited free playing instructions through our Blue Bear Flutes YouTube channel — an excellent resource for both beginners and experienced players.
