Our Eastern Red Cedar Native American style Drone Flutes are a timeless blend of thoughtful design, traditional inspiration, and natural warmth. Handcrafted from aromatic Eastern Red Cedar, these flutes are now available in the keys of A, high B, high C, and high D, offering a range of voices to suit different playing styles and preferences.
Eastern Red Cedar has long been valued by flute players for its smooth, mellow tone and naturally sweet aroma. Each flute showcases cedar’s rich red and golden hues along with flowing grain patterns, making every instrument visually unique. The sound is warm, earthy, and expressive — equally suited for meditation, performance, or quiet personal playing.
Each flute features a dual-chamber drone design with a thumb hole on the back of the drone chamber, positioned for easy reach. This allows the drone chamber to produce up to three notes:
the base note of the scale (for example, A on an A flute),
the major tonic (C on an A flute), and
with a stronger breath, the upper octave of the base note.
This design creates rich harmonies and layered resonance while remaining intuitive and comfortable to play.
The melody side uses our 5-hole Native American style flute design, which is ideal for beginners and experienced players alike. There is no "extra hole to cover with leather", and our 5-hole flutes can play all the same notes as any 6-hole flute — with ease. This makes the instrument approachable for new players while remaining very expressive for advanced musicians!
Every flute is custom made to order and hand-finished with our natural oil and beeswax blend, a traditional, non-toxic finish that protects the wood and preserves tone without lacquer.

Each instrument is individually shaped, tuned, and finished by hand to ensure balanced tone, smooth playability, and lasting durability.
Tuning Frequency:
All keyed flutes are tuned to A = 440 Hz by default. Upon request, flutes may be tuned to 432 Hz or A = 444 Hz (528 Hz-based C tuning). If you are unfamiliar with alternate tunings, we recommend staying with 440 Hz, which is the standard and our preferred tuning. Simple Care:
Maintain your flute with Imitation Bear Fat / Flute Wax or natural oils, and store it in a flute bag to protect it from the elements and extend its life.
