Padauk (pronounced puh-DUKE) is a striking African hardwood known for its vivid orange-red hue and clear, projecting voice. Over time, its color deepens to a rich russet, while its tone remains bright, lively, and full of character — perfect for players who love a bold sound and visual statement.
Like all of our Old-Style models, this flute features an open mouthpiece design — rather than a narrow blow hole, the opening is the same size as the flute’s interior. This design, inspired by traditional rivercane flutes, allows you to press your lips directly to the end and blow naturally, offering excellent breath control and helping prevent the flute from “wetting out.”

This model is offered in the key of high B (as heard in the video), and can be tuned to 432 Hz or 528 Hz upon request instead of the standard 440 Hz. Just leave a note with your order.
Every flute is custom-made to order, hand-finished with our exclusive natural oil-and-wax blend that enhances the vivid grain of Padauk while preserving its powerful voice without lacquer. For maintenance, use our Imitation Bear Fat or natural oils such as mineral or olive oil.
